Parking Brake

~1min read

Whenever you leave the vehicle parked, always apply the parking brake. To prevent the vehicle from rolling away on a slope, make sure the parking brake is securely engaged.

Vehicles with i-SHIFT transmission: Before turning off the engine, make sure that the gear position indicator displays the required gear number.

Safe Parking Recommendations

Make sure all doors are securely closed.

Turn off all lights.

Lock all items in the luggage compartment or take them with you.

Lock all doors.

For vehicles equipped with an anti-theft system

Check the anti-theft system indicator on the instrument panel and make sure the anti-theft system is armed.

Never park the vehicle on areas covered with dry leaves, tall grass, or other combustible materials.

Remember that while the engine is running, the catalytic converter housing becomes extremely hot, which may cause a fire if it contacts combustible materials.

If you park the vehicle on an uphill grade, engage first gear and turn the front wheels so that, if the vehicle accidentally rolls backward, the front wheel will contact the curb.

If you park the vehicle on a downhill grade, engage reverse gear and turn the front wheels so that, if the vehicle accidentally rolls forward, the front wheel will contact the curb.

Before driving, fully release the parking brake. Driving with the parking brake partially applied will overheat the rear brake mechanisms and may cause them to fail.
