Starting the engine (for gasoline engine versions) - i-SHIFT transmission (manual transmission with automatic mode)

1. Apply the parking brake.
2. In low ambient temperatures, turn off all auxiliary electrical loads to reduce the load on the battery.
3. Depress the parking brake pedal and move the gear shift lever to the neutral position.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position (Ignition on).
Make sure the gear shift lever is in the neutral position, depress the brake pedal, and make sure the N position indicator lights up.
If the gear shift lever is not in the neutral position or the brake pedal is not depressed, the engine will not start.
5. Without pressing the accelerator pedal, press the engine start button. Do not hold the engine start button pressed for longer than 15 seconds. If the engine does not start immediately, wait at least 10 seconds before attempting to start the engine again to allow the electric starter to cool down.

WARNING
Before driving off, check that the indicator shows the correct gear shift lever position.

WARNING
The immobilizer is an effective anti-theft device that protects the vehicle from possible theft. An attempt to start the engine with an incorrect key or any other device will result in the engine fuel system being disabled. For more information on the immobilizer system, refer to page 149.

WARNING
Starting the engine is more difficult in low ambient temperatures. At high altitudes (above 2400 m above sea level), where the air is very thin, starting the engine is even more difficult.
In sub-zero ambient temperatures, or if the vehicle has not been used for several days, allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before driving off (in Germany, under paragraph 30 of the StVO regulations, warming up the engine while the vehicle is stationary is prohibited in some cases).
