i-SHIFT Transmission - Additional Driving Recommendations

~1min read

At very low outside air temperatures, the transmission may fail to shift from second to first gear.

Automatic downshifting does not occur while the Vehicle Stability Control (VSA) system is operating (see page 341).

The transmission also does not shift to a higher gear if the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) sensors send a signal indicating that the vehicle is currently turning.

If you try to free a stuck vehicle by rocking it back and forth or by racing the engine, the wheels may spin at high speed, which may damage the transmission.

To avoid damaging the transmission, call a tow truck (see page 479).
