Electric Power Steering (EPS) (if equipped)
This system uses an electric motor to assist steering.
If the engine is off or if the power steering system stops working, the vehicle can still be steered, but more effort will be required.
The motor-driven power steering system is controlled by the steering assist torque and vehicle speed to control the motor.
To provide better steering control, the steering becomes heavier as vehicle speed increases, and lighter as speed decreases. If you notice any change in the steering effort required during normal vehicle operation, the power steering must be checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
NOTE The following may occur during normal vehicle operation:
- The EPS warning light does not come on.
- After turning the ignition ON, the steering wheel turns heavily. This occurs while the EPS system is performing self-diagnosis.
After diagnosis is complete, normal steering will be restored.
However, after a few minutes, it will return to normal.
