KE-III-Jetronic Injection System

Fuel mixture control unit

~1min read

It is the main component of the injection system and consists of the air flow sensor and the fuel distributor. They work as follows:

The light metal air flow sensor plate is located in the center of the air flow drawn in by the engine. This control plate is lifted by the suction of the pistons on the intake stroke, the more air that passes the throttle valve, the more it lifts. Through a lever system, the deflection of the plate is transmitted to the fuel distributor.

The fuel distributor consists mainly of the metering plunger and the slide valve housing. For each engine cylinder, the slide valve housing has a slot through which fuel flows to the corresponding injection nozzle. The metering plunger opens or closes these slots to a greater or lesser extent and thus, depending on the position of the control plate, releases the corresponding amount of fuel.
