Seat belts are safety-relevant components. If they malfunction or are damaged, they must be replaced immediately.

Warning: Noises produced when the webbing retracts are normal and part of the design. If the noise is disturbing, only the seat belt can be replaced. Under no circumstances use oil or grease to eliminate noises. Do not disassemble the retractor, as the pre-tensioned spring may jump out. Risk of accident!

  • Pull the seat belt all the way out and check the webbing for cut fibers. Damage can be caused, for example, by the belt being pinched. In this case, replace the belt.

  • If there is abrasion without cut fibers, the belt does not need to be replaced.

  • If the belt is stiff, check it for twists and remove the trim on the center pillar if necessary.

  • If the retractor no longer works, replace the belt.

  • Clean the webbing only with soap and water. Never use solvents or chemical cleaning agents.

Lubricate locking mechanisms

Grease the door lock striker pins, catches and contact surfaces of the rotary latches with multi-purpose grease, for example "Optimol-Optitemp TT 1".

Visual inspection of underbody/body

During regular care, pay attention to paint damage and clean the underbody frequently. Also check for damage to the underbody protection, see page 287.
