The fuel system includes the fuel tank, the fuel pump (installed in the tank on petrol engines), the fuel lines, and the fuel injection system with fuel and air filters.

The plastic fuel tank is located under the luggage compartment, above the rear axle. The current fuel level is shown to the driver on the instrument cluster.

The tank is vented through a sealed evaporative emission system. The harmful fuel vapors from the tank vent are collected in an activated charcoal canister and fed in a controlled way to the engine for combustion.

Kraftstoffanlage

All models have a safety switch that shuts off the fuel pump in an accident with an impact speed of about 25 km/h or more; on diesel engines, it shuts off the stop solenoid on the injection pump. This interrupts the fuel supply. The switch is installed under the driver's seat on the cross member. The switch can be reset by pressing the button with the rubber protective cap -arrow-.

Warning: if there is a smell of leaking fuel after a collision, the leak must be repaired before the switch is reset to prevent fire.
