Checking the Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Level
1. Drive the vehicle until the automatic transaxle fluid (ATF) reaches normal operating temperature (70 to 80°C).
2. Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.
3. Depress the brake pedal and move the selector lever sequentially through all positions, holding it in each position for a few seconds to fill the hydraulic control system and torque converter with ATF. Then move the selector lever to the "N" position.
4. Before removing the dipstick, clean the area around the dipstick of dirt. Remove the dipstick and check the condition of the transaxle fluid (ATF). If any of the following conditions exist, overhaul the transaxle:
• If the A/T fluid (ATF) has a burnt smell.
• If the A/T fluid (ATF) is noticeably black.
• If the A/T fluid (ATF) contains a large amount of metal particles.
5. Check that the A/T fluid (ATF) level is within the "HOT" range of the dipstick. If the A/T fluid (ATF) level is below the specified level, add fluid up to the "HOT" mark.

GENUINE HYUNDAI ATF SP-II M
If the A/T fluid (ATF) level is below normal, the oil pump will draw in air together with the fluid, which will cause various malfunctions.
Air entering the A/T hydraulic system together with the fluid (ATF) forms bubbles, which cause the fluid to foam. As a result, hydraulic pressure becomes unstable, which in turn causes delayed shifting (late gear engagement) and slipping of friction clutches or brakes, etc.
If the level is above normal, the rotation of the planetary gear components will cause heavy foaming of the fluid (ATF), resulting in the same consequences as a low fluid level and causing premature deterioration of the fluid.
In both cases, air bubbles cause overheating and oxidation of the fluid (ATF) and varnish deposits, which damage valves, clutches, and actuators. Foaming also causes fluid (ATF) to be expelled through the transaxle breather, which is mistaken for a leak.

6. Make sure that you have carefully inspected the condition of the A/T fluid (ATF) on the dipstick before reinstalling it.
