Torque Converter Stall Test on a Fully Stopped Vehicle (TORQUE CONVERTER STALL TEST)
The purpose of this test is to measure the maximum engine speed with the automatic transmission output shaft fully locked in the "D" and "R" ranges. This speed can be used to determine the operation of the torque converter stator one-way clutch and to check for slippage in the friction clutches and brakes of the automatic transmission.
During this test, do not allow anyone to stand in front of or behind the vehicle.
a) Check the automatic transmission fluid level and temperature, and the engine coolant temperature.
● ATF level: at the "HOT" mark on the transmission dipstick.
● ATF temperature: 80 - 100°C.
● Engine coolant temperature:
80 - 100°C.
b) Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels of the vehicle (left and right).
c) Fully apply the parking brake lever and depress the brake pedal fully.
d) Start the engine.
e) Move the transmission selector lever to the "D" position, fully depress the accelerator pedal, and measure the engine speed at this moment.
1. During this test, do not hold the throttle valve fully open for more than 8 seconds.
2. If this test must be performed more than once, after each test move the transmission selector lever to the "N" position and run the engine at 1000 rpm for 2 minutes to cool the ATF between tests.
Standard engine speed with vehicle fully stalled (stall test): 2100 - 2900 rpm. 3. Move the selector lever to the "R" position and repeat the test with the vehicle fully stalled, in the same way as described above.
Standard engine speed with vehicle fully stalled (stall test): 2100 - 2900 rpm
