Replacing the Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF)
If an ATF fluid charger is available, use it. If not, replace the ATF in the automatic transaxle as follows:
1. Drain the ATF from the automatic transaxle hydraulic system.
a) Disconnect the hose that connects the transaxle to the oil cooler located inside the engine radiator.
b) Start the engine and allow the ATF to drain through the hose.
Operating conditions:
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the "N" position.
The engine must be stopped one minute after starting. If all the ATF has drained before this time, stop the engine immediately.
c) Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the transaxle case and drain the ATF from the automatic transaxle oil pan.
d) Install the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten it to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 32 N·m e) Fill with new ATF through the automatic transaxle filler tube.
If the specified ATF quantity cannot be fully filled into the transaxle, stop filling.
f) Repeat the procedure described in step (b).
Check the drained ATF for contamination.
If the ATF is contaminated, repeat steps (d) and (e).
If the transaxle is overfilled with ATF above the specified capacity, repeat step (e).
2. Replace the external transaxle oil filter. If the ATF is significantly contaminated, inspect the internal transaxle oil filter.
3. Fill the transaxle with new ATF through the transaxle filler tube.
4. Connect the transaxle oil cooler hose disconnected in step (1), and securely install the dipstick. Before installing the transaxle dipstick, clean dirt from the area around it.
5. Start the engine and let it idle for 1 – 2 minutes.
6. Move the transaxle selector lever through all positions in sequence, then set it to "N".
7. Check that the ATF level is within the "COLD" range on the dipstick. If the level is below the specified range, add the required amount of ATF.
8. Drive the vehicle until the ATF temperature reaches the normal operating range (70 – 80°C), then check the ATF level again. The level should be within the "HOT" range on the dipstick.

9. Fully insert the dipstick into the transaxle filler tube.
