Jump Starting
GENERAL INFORMATION

PROCEDURE

1. Connect the positive (+) red jumper cable clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery.

2. Connect the other end of the red jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the booster (auxiliary) battery.

3. Connect one end of the black jumper cable to the negative (-) terminal of the booster battery.

4. Connect the other end of the black cable to a bolt or bracket on the engine block of the vehicle being started, away from the battery.
5. Make sure the jumper cables are routed clear of the cooling fan, drive belts and other moving parts so they cannot contact them.
6. Start the engine using the booster battery, let it run at idle, then disconnect the cables in the reverse order.
Observe the following precautions when jump starting the vehicle: Before connecting the booster battery, make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
Make sure all electrical loads (headlights, heater, wipers, etc.) are switched OFF.
Make sure the booster battery has the same nominal voltage as the battery in your vehicle.
If the engine is started from a battery installed in another vehicle, the vehicle bodies must not touch.
Make sure the transmission shift lever is in Neutral (or in Park if the vehicle has an automatic transmission).
