Selecting the Correct Engine Oil
Two criteria are decisive when buying the "correct" engine oil. The oil must have:
The correct specification. Falsely labeled oil cans are extremely rare, because manufacturers monitor each other.
The correct viscosity (flow characteristics). It depends on the prevailing outside temperature and can be determined from the upper chart.
"The use of additives of any kind in lubricating oils is contrary to our operating instructions. Damage resulting from the use of such additives is excluded from the warranty." This is Audi's position on oil additives. Whether it is worthwhile to spend money on oil additives to extend engine service life remains highly questionable, especially considering the use of oils with high performance properties.
