Body
Thanks to the large “four rings” hood, the Audi 80 has acquired modern “family” styling features among other Audi models. Body-colored front and rear spoilers with integrated bumpers are part of the overall elegant shape. The new Audi makes a much more “mature” impression than the previous series thanks to increased length (about 8 cm), wheelbase (7 cm) and track width (4 cm), as well as 15-inch wheels.

The new fuel tank location allows an impressive luggage compartment volume even in the all-wheel-drive version. The tank shape is interesting: it uses all voids and recesses under the luggage compartment floor to increase capacity.
The rear end design is defined by a large light-colored strip with black trim and a wide luggage compartment opening. The opening extends to the level of the bumper and, due to its low height, makes loading easier, including with the rear seatback folded. The luggage opening is a full meter wide, which is also an advantage. The luggage compartments of front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models have the same volume. The fuel tank and the spare wheel with a standard tire are located under the flat floor of the luggage compartment.
The fuel tank of front-wheel-drive models holds at least 66 L, and all-wheel-drive models hold 64 L.
This is not obvious at first glance, but the body of the Audi 80, with its four doors, wide tailgate and loadable luggage compartment, had to be completely redesigned. A particularly rigid body was required despite the lightweight construction.
This required significant reinforcement in strategically important areas, such as the underbody, the rear wheel wells and the pillar areas.
Avant (estate)
In August 1992 the sedan body version of the Audi 80 was joined for the first time by an estate version. The attractive Avant was developed in Austria by Steyr and can hold up to 1.2 m³ of luggage.
