Checking the engine oil level
Regular Checks
If you have just purchased an Audi 80 (new or used), it is best to check the oil level at every refueling. If it becomes clear that the engine consumes very little oil, the checking interval can be extended to every second or even every fourth refueling.
PROCEDURE
Park the vehicle on a level surface.
After switching off an engine that has been warmed up to operating temperature, wait at least another five minutes so the oil can drain into the sump. Checking before the first start of a still cold engine is even more effective.
Be careful with a hot engine to avoid burning your hands.
Pull out the dipstick (oil level indicator), wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel, reinsert it fully, wait briefly, and pull it out again.
The oil level will be visible on the tip of the dipstick.
If the oil level is only at the lower mark, oil must be added to the engine.
