Replacing the brake piston seals

The illustration shows the disc brake piston being pushed in with a C-clamp so that new brake pads can be installed. A small wooden block is placed underneath for protection. The caliper shown was removed for the photo; the Girling caliper normally remains attached on the upper bolt.

If the brake piston seal in the disc brake caliper is damaged, replace it as soon as possible, otherwise the brake piston will soon seize due to dirt and corrosion. The seal is only available together with the brake piston sealing ring. To install both parts, the piston must be removed from the brake cylinder bore.

For safety reasons, it is better to have this work done by a workshop. For example, remove the disc brake caliper and take it to a workshop.
