Brake System

Checking Brake Drum Condition

~1min read

PROCEDURE

The friction surface inside the drum should be as smooth as possible.

If deep grooves or scoring are visible (caused by brake shoes worn down to the rivets), the drum can be machined.

The inside diameter of new brake drums is 230 mm.

After machining, the inside diameter must not exceed 231 mm; otherwise, both brake drums must be replaced.

Machined brake drums require thicker brake shoes.
