Brake Cable Replacement
PROCEDURE
Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely.
Release the parking brake.
Loosen the adjusting nut on the equalizer until the cable is noticeably slack.
Remove the brake drum, remove the brake shoes, and disconnect the rear end of the cable from the parking brake lever.
If your vehicle has rear disc brakes, pry up the spring clip on the end of the cable housing and disconnect the brake cable end from the operating lever.
Unhook and remove the cable from the various brackets on the rear axle and underbody.
When installing, fit the stopper on the front end of the cable housing.
Hooking the parking brake cable onto the operating lever of the drum brake assembly can be difficult. Therefore, push back the coil spring on the cable with diagonal cutters and prevent it from slipping by gently clamping the cutters on the cable. Now hook the cable onto the lever.
On vehicles with rear disc brakes, the adjustment must be performed without fail!
On all vehicles, the parking brake system must be adjusted.
