Entering the Radio Code
GENERAL INFORMATION
(Applies only to radios with coding)
A radio with coding is identified by a red key symbol on the front panel. If the red indicator light on the front flashes with the ignition key removed, this means that coding is activated and the radio is ready for operation.
The code prevents unauthorized operation of the radio if its power supply has been interrupted. Power to the radio is interrupted, for example, when it is removed, when the battery is disconnected, or when a fuse blows.
If the radio is coded, the radio code must be entered before disconnecting the battery or removing the radio. If the code is not known, only an AUDI dealer can switch on the radio.
The individual code number is listed in the radio owner's manual. Do not keep it in the vehicle. Releasing the Electronic Lock
PROCEDURE
1. Switch on the power and switch on the radio.
2. Press and hold the “FM” and “DX” buttons at the same time until the message “CODE” appears on the display. Release the buttons; shortly afterward “1000” is displayed automatically.
CAUTION
On radios “chorus” and “concert”, the “TP” and “RDS” buttons are pressed instead of the “FM” and “DX” buttons.3. Using the station preset buttons 1 to 4, enter the secret code. Button 1 enters the first digit of the code, button 2 the second digit, and so on. Press the button the number of times corresponding to the digit of the code.
4. Then press and hold the “FM” and “DX” buttons at the same time again until the message “SAFE” appears. Release the buttons. The radio is now ready for operation again. The frequency is displayed automatically.
CAUTION
If an incorrect code is entered by mistake, the message “SAFE” flashes first and then remains lit continuously. The entire input process can now be repeated once more. If an incorrect code is entered again, the radio is locked for approximately 1 hour. After 1 hour – the radio must remain switched on – the lock is released. The input cycle repeats for subsequent attempts.Vehicles built from 8/98 onward, equipped with “beta” and “gamma” radios
After the radio is connected to the power supply, data is automatically exchanged between the radio and the instrument cluster. The code stored when the theft protection was first activated is compared. If the codes match, the radio is ready for use.
The radio is locked if it is installed in another vehicle or if the instrument cluster is replaced. In this case, the lock must be released by entering the code.
