Bulb Replacement
Incandescent bulbs wear out over time. For this reason, they should be replaced every 2 years, even if they are still working. This does not apply to halogen bulbs, such as those used in the headlights. As a rule, their service life is considerably longer, and they should only be replaced when they fail. Loss of light output in incandescent bulbs can be identified by black deposits on the glass envelope.
Before replacing an exterior light bulb, disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Note that if the bulb has just been on, it may be too hot.
Before replacing an exterior light bulb, check the corresponding electrical circuit and fuse. Do not touch the glass bulb of the lamp with bare hands. A fingerprint evaporates and deposits on the reflector, which results in reduced light output. Always replace failed bulbs with bulbs of the same type. Remove any fingerprint smudges accidentally left on the bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth or with alcohol.
When replacing xenon bulbs, exercise extreme care, as the power supply for these bulbs can deliver a strong electric shock.
Replacing gas-discharge (xenon) bulbs, which can be identified by the high-voltage warning label on the bulb housing, is not recommended to be performed independently.
CAUTION
H7 halogen bulbs operate under high pressure and may burst when replaced. Wear gloves and protective goggles when replacing these bulbs.Test yourself
