Comfort System Electrical Equipment

GENERAL INFORMATION

The comfort system electrical equipment of the vehicle refers to a set of various devices, such as central locking, remote control, exterior mirror adjustment, power windows, interior lighting, sliding roof control, anti-theft alarm, as well as seat and mirror memory.

The central locking system is driven by an electric motor. It consists of one central control unit, two or four door control units, four door lock units, as well as motors and switches for the tailgate or liftgate locks. For other information on the central locking system, refer to the subsection Central Locking – General Information and Vacuum Hoses.

Data is exchanged between the control units via the so-called CAN bus (Controller Area Network). CAN stands for Controller Area Network and means that the control units are connected to each other in one network. For example, the central control unit communicates with the door control unit over two wires. Without the CAN bus, communication would be carried out by means of 14 cables. Thanks to this, the electronic system takes up little space and has low weight.

The door control units form a unit together with the power window motors. The unit controls the following power window functions:

– Automatic raising and lowering of the door windows. – Manual raising and lowering of the door windows while the driver's door switch is pressed. – Stopping window movement when the switch is pressed a second time. – The window can be operated for 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off. – Locking the windows with the door key. – Anti-trap protection in the area from 4 to 200 mm below the upper window seal. If the glass encounters an obstacle, such as a hand, while moving up, the anti-trap protection returns the glass to its previous position. The anti-trap protection consists of a Hall sensor located on the door control unit circuit board and a ring magnet on the motor shaft. Using the Hall sensor, the door control unit detects a decrease in motor speed (when an obstruction occurs) and reverses the polarity of the voltage applied to the motor, i.e. reverses the motor direction.

CAUTION

Anti-pinch protection can be deactivated if the power window is switched on twice within 5 seconds after the window has stopped.

After a loss of power to the door control unit, for example due to disconnection of the battery, the control unit must relearn the window end positions. Otherwise automatic window operation is not possible. Refer to the subsection Battery Removal and Installation.

The door control unit also controls the adjustment and heating of the exterior mirror.

The central control unit is located in the instrument panel assembly and performs the following functions:

– Locking the tailgate with the central locking system. – Power supply to the luggage compartment lighting. – Power supply and automatic timed switch-off of the interior lighting, reading lights and vanity mirror lamp. – Switch-off after 30 s: if the key was removed from the ignition lock, or a door was opened and closed again. – Switch-off after 10 min: if the ignition was switched off and one or more doors are open. – Switch-off after 1 h: if the interior lighting was switched on manually and the ignition is off. – Interior lighting switches on automatically for 10 min if a crash signal is received from the airbag control unit. – Anti-theft alarm. – Power supply to the front and rear turn signals. – Power supply to the heated rear window. – Remote control.

The remote control has an operating range of approximately 7 m, and up to 10 m under favorable conditions.

Transmission of data from the transmitter in the key to the receiver in the vehicle is indicated optically by an LED on the key switch. The built-in batteries provide approximately 5,000 presses.

If the LED does not light when the switch is pressed, the batteries must be replaced.

The windows and sliding roof panel cannot be closed remotely.

The remote control receiving antenna is located in the driver's side A-pillar of the vehicle. The A-pillar is the first body pillar against which the driver's door closes.

The lock/unlock command of the remote control is confirmed by the central control unit by briefly flashing the lights. If the central locking unlocks via the remote control and the door or tailgate/liftgate does not open, the vehicle locks automatically again after 30 s.
