Fusible Links

~1min read

Some circuits are protected by fusible links installed in their electrical circuit. Fusible links are generally used to protect circuits that are not equipped with fuses, such as the ignition circuit.

On these models, fusible links are similar to fuses in that a failed (melted) link can be easily identified visually.

PROCEDURE

1. To replace a fusible link, first disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the blown link and install a new one (available from a dealership or an automotive accessory store).
3. Before replacing the link, always try to determine the cause of the overload that caused it to fail.
