Checking the Rear Window Defroster

~1min read

After the rear window defroster is switched on, the heating grid area should clear ice within a short time.

PROCEDURE

1. If there is a malfunction, first check the fuse in the fuse box.
2. If the fuse is good, check the connection of the left and right connectors at the rear window. Clean off any corrosion if necessary.

3. If the defroster still does not work, check the wiring, the switch and the circuit.

4. If a heating element is broken, it can be repaired with conventional silver conductive paint. To do this, clean the damaged area with thinner or ethylene. Refer to the accompanying illustration.
5. Apply adhesive tape on both sides of the broken element and apply silver conductive paint with a small brush.
6. Allow the coating to dry at +25°C for 24 hours. A hot air gun may be used for this purpose. At +150°C the coating dries in 30 minutes.

* Do not switch on the rear window defroster until the coating has dried. Do not use gasoline or other solvents to clean the repaired area.
