Switch Checks
Electrical Switch Checks
Most electrical consumers are switched on and off manually by switches. In addition, there are switches that operate automatically. Examples of such switches include the oil pressure sensor switch and the brake fluid level sensor switch.
The function of a switch is to close and open an electrical circuit. Some switches open the ground circuit, others the positive circuit.
Checking Lamp and Motor Switches
INSPECTION
1. Remove the corresponding switch.
2. Standard switches have only two connections. In this case, one of the contacts must always have voltage (+), and after switching off, the second contact must also have voltage. Switches with several contacts are present. For such switches, determine from the wiring diagram where voltage is supplied. If necessary, turn the ignition on.
3. Using a test lamp, check whether there is voltage at the output terminal. If voltage is present, the switch is serviceable.
4. If there is no voltage at the input terminal, there is an open circuit in the supply cable. Use the wiring diagram to check the voltage wire and replace the wire if necessary.
