Brake System Warning Light

BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT
The brake system warning light comes on when the ignition is switched on, before the engine is started.
This indicates that the warning light is working normally. The warning light should go out after the engine starts.
The brake system warning light also comes on when the parking brake is applied. The warning light goes out after the parking brake is released.
Before moving off, make sure the parking brake is fully released.
• Do not drive if the brake system warning light is on.
• An illuminated brake system warning light may indicate a malfunction in the brake system.
• A malfunction in the brake system may lead to a collision, resulting in injury, damage to your vehicle or other property damage.
If the brake system warning light remains on after the parking brake is fully released, this may indicate a low brake fluid level in the brake hydraulic reservoir.
In this case, perform the following:
1. Carefully move off the roadway and stop.
2. Check the brake fluid level in the brake hydraulic reservoir.
3. Add the recommended brake fluid to bring the level up to the MAX mark. Refer to "BRAKE/CLUTCH FLUID FILLING".
4. Drive the vehicle at a safe speed and with precautions to an authorized Chevrolet dealer to have the brakes checked under the following conditions:
• The brakes operate normally.
• Based on visual inspection, the brake system ensures vehicle safety.
5. Tow the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealer for inspection and repair under the following conditions:
• Brake system leaks are detected.
• The brake system warning light is on.
• The brakes do not operate properly.
• Do not operate the vehicle if the brake system warning light does not come on when the parking brake is applied and the ignition is on.
• Make sure the warning light is working. If the brake system warning light does not come on when the parking brake is applied and the ignition is on, contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer to inspect the brake system, even if the warning light is working.
These symptoms may indicate a malfunction in the vehicle brake system.
Failure to keep your vehicle's brakes in proper working condition may result in an accident causing injury, damage to the vehicle or other property damage.
