This warning light indicates a problem that requires attention. Driving with the malfunction indicator light on may damage the emission control system and affect fuel economy and vehicle performance.

Contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer to correct this malfunction as soon as possible.

The malfunction indicator light (MIL) comes on when a malfunction occurs in emission control system components and related subsystems.

This light remains on while the electronic control module (ECM) detects the malfunction, and for some time after the malfunction is no longer detected.

The duration of this period is determined by environmental regulations.

If severe misfiring is detected, the MIL flashes continuously. Continuing to drive with a flashing MIL may damage the catalytic converter and result in costly repairs not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

You can continue driving without risk of vehicle damage by releasing the accelerator pedal until the flashing stops and the MIL remains steadily on.

Contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer immediately to correct the problem.

If the MIL illuminates briefly when the engine is started and then goes out, the system is operating normally and there are no malfunctions.

If the MIL illuminates briefly and then goes out, the system is operating normally and there are no malfunctions.

If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, refer to "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAIL-SAFE PROGRAM".
