Diesel injection system
Driving in winter
In this manual: Diesel injection system
~1min read
As outside temperatures fall, the flow properties of diesel fuel decrease due to paraffin separation.
The diesel fuel then thickens like honey through crystal formation and clogs the fuel filter. For this reason, oil companies add additives to diesel in winter that improve flow behavior and guarantee starting down to approx. -15 °C, or -22 °C for super diesel.
If summer diesel is still in the tank at frost below -10 °C, commercially available so-called flow improvers must be added to the fuel. Observe the manufacturer's application instructions.
