The driver airbag is housed as a folded air bag in the steering wheel. In the event of a severe frontal collision, a control unit ignites a small explosive charge in the airbag unit. The gases from the explosion inflate the air bag within a few milliseconds. This time is sufficient to cushion the impact of the driver being thrown forward. The airbag then collapses within a few seconds, as the gases escape through vent openings.

Warning: For safety reasons, work on the airbag system must be carried out by a Fiat workshop. Risk of explosion!
