1.4 L engine Removal
  • Disconnect the battery negative (-) cable. Warning: this erases electronic memories, such as engine operating values. Observe the notes in the chapter "Remove and install battery".

  • Empty the reservoir with a commercially available syphon.

  • Place a drain pan under the power steering pump and catch the hydraulic fluid that escapes when the lines are disconnected.

1,4-L-motor

  • Disconnect the air intake duct at both ends and remove it. Beforehand, loosen the hose clamps - arrows - and slide them back.

1,4-L-motor

  • Unscrew the belt guard cover.

1,4-L-motor

  • Pull the oil supply line off the pump. Beforehand, open the hose clamp - arrow -.

  • Unscrew the oil return line from the pump at the union nut.

  • Mark the position of the right front wheel relative to the wheel hub with paint. This allows the balanced wheel to be refitted in the same position. Loosen the wheel bolts while the vehicle is standing on the ground. Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the front wheel.

1,4-L-motor

  • Unscrew and unclip the right wheel arch liner.

  • Loosen the mounting bolts for the power steering pump pulley.

  • Release the tension on and remove the serpentine belt, see page 58.

  • Unscrew and remove the pulley.

1,4-L-motor

  • Unscrew the power steering pump from the bracket and remove it.

Installation
  • Insert the power steering pump into the bracket and bolt it on.

    Tighten M6/M8 bolts to 25 N·m, M10 bolts to 50 N·m.

  • Install and tension the poly-V belt, see page 58.

  • Attach the pressure line to the pump with a new O-ring and 35 N·m.

  • Push the suction hose from the reservoir onto the pump and secure it with a clamp.

  • Fill the reservoir with new hydraulic fluid.

Specification: hydraulic fluid to Fiat specification: Tutela GL/A, equivalent to ATF fluid "Dexron II".

Caution: always use only new fluid when topping up, as even the smallest contamination can cause faults in the hydraulic system. Make sure the hydraulic fluid is not shaken before filling, as this causes air bubbles to form.
  • Pour the fluid in slowly to avoid air bubbles forming.

  • Connect the battery negative cable (-).

  • Set the clock.

  • Enter the radio anti-theft code.

  • Bleed the steering system.
Special for 1.6 L engine:
  • Remove the generator cooling line.

Speziell 1,6-l-motor

  • Unscrew the power steering pump from the bracket with 3 bolts at the front - 1 - and 2 bolts at the rear - 2 - and remove it.
