Adjust headlamps/fog lamps

~2min read

Correct headlamp adjustment is of great importance for road safety. Exact adjustment of headlamps is only possible with a special aiming device.

Therefore, only the location of the adjusting screws and the conditions required for correct headlamp adjustment are shown.

  • Tires must have the specified tire inflation pressure.

  • Vehicle must have a full tank. If the tank is only half full, place a weight of approx. 30 kg in the luggage compartment.

  • Unladen vehicle must be loaded with 75 kg (one person) on the driver's seat.

  • Place vehicle on a level surface.

  • Press front of vehicle down firmly several times so the front suspension settles.

  • Make sure the headlamp leveling control on the dashboard is set to "0". If necessary, turn the knob to "0", then switch on ignition and low beam. This moves the headlamps to position "0" via the actuator motor.

  • Headlamps may only be adjusted with low beam. The inclination for standard headlamps is 13 cm at 10 m distance (= 1.3%).

  • If a headlamp aiming device is not available, park the vehicle on a level surface 10 m in front of a white wall and switch on low beam.

  • The light-dark cutoff line -ac-ac- must be h = 13 cm below dimension -hc-hc- (distance from headlamp center to ground). C-c = distance between the two headlamp centers. V = center axis.
