Fuel system

Safety and cleanliness rules when working on the fuel system

~1min read

When working on the fuel system, observe the following safety and cleanliness rules carefully:

  • No open flames, no smoking. Do not bring glowing or very hot parts near the work area. Risk of accident! Keep a fire extinguisher ready.

  • Make sure the work area is well ventilated.

    Fuel vapors are toxic.

  • Keep a CO2 fire extinguisher ready.

  • Keep binding agent ready to absorb leaked fuel.

  • The fuel system is under pressure. When opening the system, fuel may spray out. Catch escaping fuel with a rag. Wear safety goggles.

  • Thoroughly clean connections and their surroundings before loosening them.

  • Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them. Use foil or paper. Do not use lint-producing rags!

  • Carefully cover or seal opened components if the repair is not carried out immediately.

  • Remove replacement parts from their packaging only immediately before installation. Install only clean parts.

  • Do not use parts that have been stored unpackaged (e.g. in tool boxes, etc.).

  • Do not use compressed air while the fuel system is open. Avoid moving the vehicle.

  • Diesel fuel must not get onto the engine coolant hoses, as they will be attacked. If diesel fuel gets onto them, wipe it off immediately with a damp rag.
