On-Board Diagnostics
Standard Heating/Air Conditioning System
On the models covered by this Manual, circuit fault diagnosis of the heater/air conditioner control unit can be performed without using a scan tool.

Turn the ignition on and press the recirculation mode button until the indicator lamp directly above it lights. The heater fan must be off.
Press the button again (the indicator lamp should go off) and hold it depressed. The indicator lamp lighting again indicates that self-diagnosis mode has been initiated. The lamp will now flash codes for basic faults detected in the system. One flash indicates a malfunction of the air mix control motor (door jammed, winding fault, or short circuit). Two flashes indicate a failure of the mode selection motor. Three flashes indicate faults related to an open or short circuit in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit, or an internal fault in the sensor assembly itself.
