Fan Control Module Check

~1min read

PROCEDURE

1. На моделях V6 функционированием вентилятора системы охлаждения управляет специальный

1. On V6 models, operation of the cooling fan is controlled by a special electronic module located under the front passenger knee bolster. Remove the knee bolster (refer to Body section). Probe the terminals of each wire on the back of the module connector with a sharp probe with the ignition switch in two positions (ON and OFF). Use caution - do not puncture the insulation.

2. Check for continuity between the black wire terminal and ground. If there is no continuity, check the ground circuit.
3. Check for battery voltage at the terminals of the following wires: white, black/yellow-1, black/yellow-2, yellow/white and yellow. If there is no voltage, check the condition of the relevant fuses in both fuse/relay boxes (under the instrument panel and in the engine compartment).
4. Turn the ignition back on, restoring the original wiring connection. Ground the green wire terminal. If the fans do not operate, check the green, yellow and yellow/white wires for an open circuit.
5. Measure the voltage at the white/green wire terminal. The specified value with engine temperature below 107 °C is 11 to 12 V. If not, check for a short to ground in the housing, and evaluate the control module and thermal switch sensor.
6. Before testing a new module, disconnect both fan relays and check for no continuity between the yellow/yellow-white wire terminal and ground (set the ohmmeter range to 20 kOhm). If there is continuity, the new module will also fail when powered.
