Repair Procedures

Removal

Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

Remove the rear pillar trim.

(Refer to Body - "Rear Pillar Garnish")

Disconnect the power liftgate spindle connector (A).

Using a screwdriver, carefully lift the socket clip tabs (A).

Remove the power liftgate spindle (B).
Caution
- Work in a group of two or more persons when removing and installing the PTG spindle.
- Be careful not to close the liftgate while removing the PTG spindle.
- Do not reuse a PTG spindle drive that has been dropped. Discard any dropped PTG spindles.
- Use special care when removing the socket clip so that it is not lost, as it may pop out.
- When removing the socket clip, be careful not to scratch its surface, as scratches may cause corrosion later.

Installation

Install the power liftgate spindle.

Connect the power liftgate spindle connector.

Install the rear pillar garnish.

Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Caution
- When assembling the PTG spindle drive to the ball socket, listen for a click to confirm it is fully assembled.
- After assembling the PTG spindle drive to the ball socket, check that the socket clip is securely assembled. (The clip must not protrude from the socket.)
- After assembling the PTG spindle drive, make sure the bushing on the housing side is securely assembled.
