Description and Operation
Description

BCW uses two magnetic wave radar sensors mounted on the rear bumper to measure the distance to vehicles behind, and provides warnings (visual and audible) for any vehicle entering the blind spot.
Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW) system: Detects other vehicles in the rear blind spot and warns the driver by illuminating the outside rearview mirror indicator.
Lane Change Assist (LCA) system: Detects approaching high-speed vehicles from the rear side and warns the driver.
Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) system: Provides a warning for vehicles approaching from the rear side when reversing.

System Operating Mode

When the engine is started with the switch in the OFF position, the OFF mode is activated.
When the ON switch is pressed in OFF mode, the passive mode is activated.
If the engine is started with the switch on, the passive mode is activated.
※ During IGN ON, the switch is in its initial state: the last position is stored.
If IGN OFF → ON with the switch on, the switch is on.
If IGN OFF → ON with the switch in the OFF position, the switch is in the OFF position.
If the engine is started while BCW is on, or if BCW is turned on while it is off, the outside mirror indicator blinks 2-3 times for a few seconds.
This informs the driver that the BCW system is ready. (Provided that the system is not in a fault mode, there is no blinking.)
If the activation conditions (speed and radius of curvature) are met during driving, the Active mode is turned on (warning is issued).
If the activation conditions (speed and radius of curvature) are not met during driving, the passive mode is turned on (warning is canceled).
If BCW and LCA operation fails in any mode, fail mode is activated.
If the BCW and LCA operate normally in Fail mode, the System Operating mode changes as shown below.
If the operating mode was OFF before the failure: changes to OFF mode.
If the operating mode was ON before the failure: changes to ON mode.
If the OFF button is pressed during BCW and LCA operation (active/passive), OFF mode is on.
Warning Status
Warning Zone

BCW Warning Activation Conditions
① The entire body of the target vehicle is behind line A.
② Any part of the target vehicle crosses line B.
③ Any part of the target vehicle crosses line D and hysteresis In.
④ The entire part of the target vehicle crosses line E and hysteresis Out.

BCW warning cancellation conditions
① The entire body of the target vehicle is in front of line A.
② The entire body of the target vehicle moves behind line B.
③ The entire body of the target vehicle crosses line D and hysteresis Out.
④ The entire part of the target vehicle crosses line E and hysteresis Out.

LCA Warning Activation Conditions
① The entire body of the target vehicle is behind line B.
② Any part of the target vehicle crosses line C.
③ Any part of the target vehicle crosses line D and hysteresis In.
④ The entire part of the target vehicle crosses line E and hysteresis Out.
⑤ Under all of the above conditions, TTC (time to collision) is less than 3 seconds.

LCA Warning Deactivation Conditions
① The entire body of the target vehicle crosses line C.
② The entire body of the target vehicle crosses line D and hysteresis Out.
③ The entire body of the target vehicle crosses line E and hysteresis Out.
④ TTC (time to collision) is more than 3 seconds.

Sensor Activation Conditions
① BCW and LCA switch is ON (indicated by the switch LED).
② Vehicle speed: 30 km/h or higher.
③ Radius of curvature: 125 m or more.
④ Relative vehicle speed: from -10 to 255 km/h.
(A negative value refers to overtaking the vehicle ahead.)
Sensor Deactivation Conditions
① BCW and LCA switch is OFF (indicated by the switch LED).
② Vehicle speed: 27 km/h or lower.
③ Radius of curvature: less than 125 m.
④ Relative vehicle speed: all except from -10 to 255 km/h.
(A negative value refers to overtaking the vehicle ahead.)
System Control Prohibition
① Radar blocked by debris: System status - Blockage message is displayed.
② Radar installation deformed due to external impact: Send the DTC.
③ BCW and LCA system failure: Send the DTC.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW)
Item Specification Notes Vehicle Speed from 0 to -10 km/h R position Relative speed 4 - 60 km/h +: closing Operating Range 0.5 - 20 m Vehicle: 20 m
Bicycle: 15 m
① This function helps the driver detect an approaching vehicle from the rear and side areas that cannot be seen visually when the driver reverses the vehicle out of a parking space.
② A warning is generated for the target vehicle if it is within 2 seconds based on TTC (time to collision). Pedestrians are not considered approaching targets when warning the driver. (A warning may not be generated.)

Repair Procedures
Diagnosis using KDS
BCW system defects can be quickly diagnosed using KDS. Quickly monitor input/output values and self-diagnosis.
Connect the KDS cable to the data link connector under the driver's side crash pad panel and turn on the KDS.
Select the vehicle model, then the BCW system.
Select "Input/Output Monitor" to check the current data of the BCW system.
To forcibly check the operation of each module, select "Activation Test".
