Cluster Variant Coding

Since the vehicle has more options (ESC, MDPS, etc.), the instrument cluster now has more information to display depending on the selected options.

For this reason, it is necessary to determine which options the vehicle has when replacing the instrument cluster.

To solve this problem, a coding procedure based on the options required for the vehicle should be performed when replacing the instrument cluster.

This is called variant coding.

Function

  1. High-Speed CAN Communication (C-CAN)

    • User Function: Auto Seats linked to Entry/Exit Movement, Welcome Light

    • LDW: Lane Departure Warning

    • LKA: Lane Keeping Assist

    • PA: Parking Assist

    • PDW: Park Distance Warning

  2. Low-speed CAN communication (M-CAN)

    • AV: Audio/Video Multimedia Information Display

    • TBT: Turn-by-Turn Navigation Information Display

  3. Various Source Control

Various warning alarms and sound effects are output through external speakers connected to the instrument cluster.

Sound Description and Function (CAN Data Receiver)
Welcome Welcome (key removed and door open/closed, verified by IBU).
    Goodbye Goodbye (Cluster)
Open Door Warning Key warning (IBU), vehicle speed 5 km/h or below and IGN switch in ACC or IGN, or engine start, and when vehicle speed is below 5 km/h, or driver door open
Unfastened Seat Belt Warning Driver seat belt unfastened warning (IBU)
PDW system warning PDW sensor malfunction warning (IBU)
R Gear PDW warning when shifting to R (reverse) (IBU and PA)
Parking Brake Parking brake warning (IBU)
Start Button SSB button warning (IBU)
Rheostat Light Information Rheostat Warning When Maximum or Minimum Level Is Selected (Cluster)
Smart Key Transmission Smart key not detected warning (IBU)
Smart Cruise Changeover from Normal Cruise to Smart Cruise (SCC)
Smart Cruise Driving Information Smart Cruise (SCC) Function Cancellation
Normal Cruise Changeover from Smart Cruise to Normal Cruise (SCC)
Turn Signal Lamp (Check Mark) Turn signal lamp indicator warning (IBU)
Turn Signal Lamp (Tock) Turn signal lamp indicator warning (IBU)
Smart Key Low Battery Voltage Warning when the driver presses the SSB button with a low-voltage smart key battery (IBU)
EPB Warning Warning When Changing from Auto Hold to EPB Lock (EPB)
Coolant Temperature Warning When Engine Temperature Is Above 120 °C
  4. User Setting Mode (USM)

The settings can be changed using the tactile switch menu and the CW, CCW, and OK buttons (or the UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, and OK buttons of the general switch). There are a total of 24 items (for example, Entry/Exit Seat Synchronization, Steering Wheel Synchronization, Auto Door Lock, Auto Door Unlock, Headlamp Follow-Me, Welcome Light, Welcome Sound, Triple Turn Signal, Average Fuel Consumption Auto Reset, HUD Height, Brightness, and Content Setup) that can be set and adjusted. The signal flow during setup is as follows.

    1. USM settings are configured and transmitted to the IBU.

    2. The IBU transmits the settings over B-CAN to the corresponding modules.

    3. The module completes the setup and transmits the changed setting to the MSB.

    4. The IBU transmits the final settings to the cluster over the C-CAN bus.
