Never clean vinyl trim with detergents, caustic soap or kerosene-based cleaners. Plain soap and water work perfectly, and a soft brush easily removes old dirt. Wash vinyl trim as often as you wash the entire vehicle. After cleaning, applying a high-quality protectant for rubber and vinyl surfaces will help prevent oxidation and cracking. Protectant can also be applied to window seals, vacuum lines and rubber hoses, which often fail as a result of chemical deterioration, and to the tires.
