Eco guide & Power guide*
The Eco Guide and Power Guide of the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) help the driver develop an economical yet powerful driving style. This section explains the displays and their meaning for evaluating current and average consumption as well as the available engine output. It also describes how the instruments help optimize driving behavior to both reduce fuel consumption and make sensible use of the engine's performance reserves. These functions contribute to improved efficiency and the responsible use of resources.
Eco guide and Power guide are two of the instruments in the instrument cluster that help the driver operate the vehicle with the best possible consumption values.
The vehicle also stores statistical data from previous trips, which can be displayed as bar charts. See On-board computer - trip statistics*
Eco guide
This gauge shows how economically the car is being driven.
To display this function, select the "Eco" theme, see Instrument cluster, digital - overview.

- Instantaneous value
- Average value
Instantaneous value
The instantaneous value is shown here - the higher the needle deflection on the scale, the better.
The instantaneous value is calculated from the speed, engine speed, the engine output being used, and the use of the service brake.
An optimal speed (50–80 km/h) and low engine speeds are recommended.
When accelerating and braking, the displayed values drop.
Very low instantaneous values (with a short time delay) cause the red area of the gauge to illuminate, which indicates uneconomical driving and should therefore be avoided.
Average value
The average value slowly follows the instantaneous value and shows how the vehicle has been driven recently. The higher the needle deflection on the scale, the more economically the driver has been driving.
Power guide
This gauge shows the ratio between the engine output already being drawn and the output still available (power).
To display this function, select the "Performance" theme, see Instrument cluster, digital - overview.

- Available engine output
- Engine output being used
Available engine output
The smaller upper pointer indicates the available engine output9. The higher the needle deflection on the scale, the more output is still available in the current gear.
Engine output being used
The larger lower pointer shows the engine output being used9. The higher the needle deflection on the scale, the more output is being drawn from the engine.
A large gap between the two pointers means that the power reserve is large.
9 The output is based on engine speed.
The Eco guide and Power guide in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation) support efficient, performance-oriented driving. While the Eco guide helps the driver optimize fuel consumption, the Power guide shows the current power usage and available reserves.
The easy-to-understand displays help you develop a better feel for the vehicle and your current driving style. This makes the driving experience more efficient and more aware.
These features reflect the Volvo S80's aim to combine comfort, driving pleasure and environmental awareness in harmony.
