The key positions on the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) allow flexible use of electrical functions without starting the engine. This section describes which modes are available and which systems are active in each position, such as infotainment or power windows. It also explains the adjustment options for the front seats, which increase driving comfort. The driver and front passenger can individually adjust their seating position to ensure optimum ergonomics and safety.

Key positions - functions in different modes

To allow the use of a limited number of functions with the engine switched off, the vehicle electrical system can be set to three positions using the transponder key: 0, I and II. This owner's manual describes these levels in detail as "key positions".

The following table shows which functions can be used in each key position/level.

Selecting the key position or level

  • Key position 0 - Unlocks the vehicle. The vehicle's electrical system is therefore at level 0.
CAUTION

To obtain level I or II without starting the engine, neither the clutch pedal nor the brake pedal may be pressed when selecting either of these key positions.

  • Key position I - With the transponder key fully inserted into the ignition lock14, briefly press START/STOP ENGINE.
  • Key position II - With the transponder key fully inserted into the ignition lock14, press and hold START/STOP ENGINE15.
  • Returning to key position 0 - To return from position II or I to key position 0, briefly press START/STOP ENGINE.

Front Seats

The front seats of the vehicle have several adjustment options for the best possible seating comfort.

Vordersitze
  1. Raising/lowering the seat: Pump up/down.
  2. Forward/backward: Lift the handle to set the correct distance to the steering wheel and pedals. Check that the seat is locked in place after adjustment.
  3. Raising/lowering the seat cushion front edge*: Pump up/down.
  4. Changing the backrest angle: Turn the handwheel.
  5. Adjusting the lumbar support*: Press the button.

WARNING

Adjust the driver's seat before driving, never while the vehicle is moving. Check that the seat is properly locked to avoid injury in the event of sudden braking or an accident.

Folding down the front passenger seat backrest*

The front passenger seat backrest can be folded forward when you need more space to transport long loads.

Slide the seat as far back/down as possible.

Bring the backrest to the upright position.

Pull up the locks on the back of the backrest when folding.

4. Slide the seat forward until it locks in place under the glove compartment.

To raise the backrest again, follow the steps in reverse order.

WARNING

Shake the backrest and make sure it is properly locked after folding it back up to avoid injury in the event of sudden braking or an accident.

The key positions of the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) allow specific vehicle functions to be activated without starting the engine. Depending on the selected position, you can use the infotainment systems, power windows or air conditioning. This increases everyday comfort.
