The power windows in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) are designed to be easy to operate and safe at the same time. This section explains operation with and without the auto function and describes the anti-trap protection, which is intended to prevent injuries. Special notes cover using the transponder key to operate the windows remotely and resetting the auto function after the battery has been disconnected. The section also strongly emphasizes correct use when children are in the vehicle.

All power windows can be operated with the switch panel in the driver's door. The switch panels in the other doors operate only the power window of the respective door.

WARNING

When closing the windows with the transponder key, check that there is no risk of trapping children or other occupants.

WARNING

If children are in the vehicle, always remember to cut power to the power windows by turning the ignition key to position 0, and then take the transponder key with you when leaving the vehicle.

Operation without auto function

Operation with auto function

All power windows can be operated with the switch panel in the driver's door. The switch panels in the other doors can only operate the power window of the respective door. Two switch panels cannot be used at the same time.

To use the power windows, the ignition key must be at position I or higher - see Ignition key positions - functions in different stages. After the engine is switched off, the power windows can be operated for a few minutes after the transponder key is removed - but not after a door has been opened.

The closing process of the windows is stopped and the window is opened if anything obstructs the movement of the window.

The anti-trap protection can also be deactivated if the closing process was stopped, for example due to ice formation.

To do this, hold the switch pulled up until the window is closed. The anti-trap protection is reactivated after a short time.

CAUTION

One way to reduce the pulsating wind noise when the rear windows are open is to also open the front windows slightly.

Operation without auto function

Move one of the switches slightly up/down. The windows move up/down for as long as the switch is held in the respective position.

Operation with auto function

Move one of the switches up/down to the end position and release it. The window automatically moves to its end position.

Operation with transponder key and central locking

For remote operation of the power windows from outside with the transponder key, or from inside with the central locking, see Transponder key and locking/unlocking - from inside.

Reset

If the battery has been disconnected, the automatic opening function must be reset to work correctly.

  1. Lightly pull up the front part of the switch and hold it for one second to raise the window to its end position.
  2. Release the switch briefly.
  3. Pull up the front part of the switch again for one second.
WARNING

A reset must be carried out for the anti-trap protection to function.

The power windows of the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) are comfortable and safe to operate. Thanks to anti-trap protection and automatic reset, the risk of injury is minimized and operation is made easier.

The option of remote control via the transponder key also offers additional convenience in everyday use and underlines the vehicle's high standards of safety and user-friendliness.
