The analog instrument cluster of the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) combines classic display technology with modern information functions. This section describes the layout of the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and other displays that provide the driver with important information. The function of the indicator and warning symbols is particularly highlighted, as they give clear feedback on the vehicle status. This keeps the driver informed about operating conditions and possible faults so that they can react in good time.

The information display in the instrument cluster shows information on certain vehicle functions as well as messages.

Gauges and displays

  1. Fuel gauge. When the needle is only at the white marker¹, the yellow low fuel level indicator starts to illuminate. See also Trip computer - additional information and Refuelling.
  2. Eco meter. The gauge shows how economically the vehicle is being driven.

The higher the reading on the scale, the more economical the driving.

  3. Speedometer
  4. Tachometer. The gauge shows the engine speed in thousands of revolutions per minute.
  5. Gear indicator²/Selected gear indicator³. See also Gear indicator*, Automatic transmission - Geartronic* or Automatic transmission - Powershift*.

Function check

All indicator and warning symbols except the symbols in the center of the information display light up in ignition position II or when the engine is started. Once the engine has started, all symbols must go out, except the parking brake symbol, which only goes out when the parking brake is released.

If the engine does not start, or the function check is carried out in ignition position II, all symbols go out within a few seconds, except the exhaust emission control system fault symbol and the low oil pressure symbol.
