Removing and Installing Lambda Sensor
The Lambda sensor is used to regulate exhaust gas composition on gasoline engines. It is screwed into the exhaust pipe upstream of the catalytic converter.
Caution: Do not repair or solder the Lambda sensor connector cables. If a cable is damaged, replace the Lambda sensor completely. Removal
1.6 L engine: Remove the plastic cover on the bulkhead - 1 -. Disconnect the connector underneath for the Lambda sensor (arrow).
1.4/1.8/2.0 L engines: Disconnect the connector in the Lambda sensor lead. On the 1.8 L engine, the connector is located below the throttle body.
Unclip the electrical lead from the cable guides.

Unscrew the Lambda sensor - 1 - from the front exhaust pipe.
On the 1.4 L engine, the Lambda sensor is located farther forward on the exhaust pipe. See illustration T-2640 on page 121.
Coat the thread of the lambda sensor with high-temperature paste, for example Bosch lambda sensor grease or Fiat anti-seize, and tighten to 55 N·m.
Route the electrical lead and connect the plug.
On the 1.6 L engine, install the connector cover on the bulkhead.
