The parking brake is applied by pulling the lever up. When parking on a slope, additionally engage 1st gear or, with an automatic transmission, the parking lock. Pull the lever fully up so that the vehicle cannot move off with the parking brake applied.

When the parking brake is applied and the ignition is on, the parking brake warning lamp illuminates.

To release the parking brake, pull the lever up slightly, press the release button – refer to illustration – and lower the lever fully.
