Vehicle Identification Numbers

GENERAL INFORMATION

The engine designation and number are located on the front side of the cylinder block at the joint between the block and the cylinder head.

CAUTION

The label with this data is also located on the timing belt cover, and the data is also shown in the service plan and in the spare wheel well.

The vehicle data plate (B) is located on the rear cross panel. The vehicle identification number (chassis number) is visible in the window of the water collection channel – A.

Vehicle data plate in the spare wheel well 1 – Internal factory product number. 2 – Vehicle identification number. 3 – Vehicle model code. 4 – Detailed model designation / engine output. 5 – Letter designation of engine and transmission models. 6 – Paint number / interior trim code. 7 – Optional equipment code. 8 – From left to right: Curb weight (kg) / Fuel consumption in urban cycle (l/100 km) / Fuel consumption in extra-urban cycle (l/100 km) / Fuel consumption in combined cycle (l/100 km) / CO2 emissions (g/km).

The chassis number is decoded as follows:

1 – Manufacturer code: WAU - Audi AG. 2 – Equipment level. 3 – Two-digit type code. 8L – Audi A

3. 4 – Detailed equipment. 5 – Model year: W - 1998, X - 1999, etc. 6 – Place of manufacture. 7 – Chassis number.
