Break-in

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION

During the first hours of operation, the engine has higher internal friction compared with the period that follows, when the moving parts have worn in against each other. The effectiveness of the break-in process depends significantly on driving style during the first 1500 km (930 miles) of operation.

First 1000 km (620 miles): do not fully depress the accelerator pedal; do not drive faster than 3/4 of maximum speed; avoid high engine speeds; avoid towing a trailer whenever possible.

From 1000 to 1500 km (620 to 930 miles)

A gradual increase to maximum speed and maximum engine speed is permitted.

After Break-In

To save fuel, shift to a higher gear as early as possible. Shift up no later than when the tachometer needle enters the red zone.

Excessively high engine speeds are blocked automatically.

During and after the break-in period

Never run a cold engine at high speed, either at idle or while driving.

All speeds and engine speeds given in the Specifications apply only to an engine that has reached operating temperature. Do not allow engine speed to drop to the point where the engine runs unevenly. Shift to a lower gear in time, before the crankshaft rotation becomes irregular.
