Removal and Installation of Door Lock

REMOVAL

1. Close the front door window. Open the other windows.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. The battery is located in the luggage compartment behind the right side trim.

* Disconnecting the battery erases data stored in electronic control module memories, such as engine fault memory. Refer to the recommendations in the Battery Removal and Installation section.

3. Insulate the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental contact.
4. Remove the door trim panel.

* Observe the safety precautions for the airbag. Refer to the Airbag Safety Precautions section.

5. Disconnect the side airbag connector (orange). Remove the airbag by unscrewing the mounting bolts and place it with the cover facing up, for example in the luggage compartment.
6. Remove the door handle.
7. Carefully remove the plastic trim at the rear of the door cutout, tilt it forward and secure it in this position with adhesive tape (1).

9. Disconnect the central locking microswitch connector and remove it downward.

INSTALLATION

1. Check that the lock clip (for the blade) is at the bottom center.

2. Insert the lock into the door. Insert the clip (1) (for the blade) of the lock upward into the blade (2) of the lock cylinder.

3. Connect the central locking motor connector and secure it.
4. Connect the microswitch connector.
5. Insert the nipple and the actuating cable into the lock.
6. Insert the handle cable into the door frame.
7. Carefully bond the foam trim panel to the door cutout.

* Avoid damaging the trim, as this may cause drafts in the cabin. Adhesive must be applied along the entire trim contour.

8. Install the outside door handle.
9. Secure the side airbag to the door frame. Connect the side airbag connector (orange).
10. Install the inner door trim panel.
11. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Set the clock. Program the radio stations.
12. Check the operation of the door lock, lock actuator and central locking.
