Safety Precautions When Handling the Seat Belt Pretensioner
• Replacement and inspection of seat belt pretensioners/airbag units must be performed only by specialist workshops. Do not make any structural modifications to these devices.
• If the seat belt pretensioner was activated in an accident, it must be replaced with a new one (workshop work).
• Before performing any work on the seat belt pretensioner, disconnect the negative battery cable. To prevent accidental contact, insulate the cable terminal.
• If a pretensioner that has not been activated is removed from the vehicle, store it so that accidental access to it is prevented.
• The pretensioner and its control unit are sensitive to impacts. If they have been dropped from a height of more than 50 cm, do not use them.
• When performing welding work, connect the welding unit clamp directly at the weld location. As a precaution, disconnect the pretensioner control unit.
• The airbag/pretensioner control unit is located under the center console. To prevent malfunctions, do not place any magnets near it.
• Do not expose the pretensioner and control unit to temperatures above +90°C, even briefly. Damaged components cannot be repaired and must not be opened. Before installing them, check again that the negative battery cable is disconnected and the terminal is insulated.
• Never remove or dispose of the seat belt pretensioner on your own. Risk of explosion!
System Check
PROCEDURE
1. After turning the ignition on, the airbag/seat belt pretensioner warning lamp should light up and go out after approximately 4 seconds.
2. If the warning lamp does not light when the ignition is turned on, this indicates a malfunction in the system.
3. If the warning lamp does not go out or lights up while driving, there is a malfunction in the airbag system. The airbag and pretensioner must be considered non-functional.
