Automatic Transaxle Fail-Safe Program

~1min read

If a malfunction occurs in the automatic transaxle, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate.

Refer to "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP".

In this case, automatic shifting is disabled or shifting becomes harsher than normal.

At the first opportunity, take the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealer for inspection and repair.

A serious malfunction in the automatic transaxle will prevent gear shifting.

If the MIL remains illuminated after starting the engine and the transaxle does not shift out of the IP position, perform the following:

1. Switch off the ignition.

2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

3. Carefully insert the key into the shift lever release slot on the center console in front of the gear position indicator.

4. Move the shift lever to the neutral position.

5. Insert the key into the ignition switch and start the engine.

6. Move the shift lever to the required position and take the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealer for inspection and repair.
