Engine Exhaust Gases (Carbon Monoxide)

~1min read

Engine exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide (CO), which has no color and no odor.

Breathing CO for a short time can cause loss of consciousness and death.

If you suspect exhaust gases are entering the passenger compartment, contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer immediately to have the vehicle inspected.

To prevent CO from entering the passenger compartment, inspect the exhaust system and vehicle body in accordance with the following recommendations:

• Every time the oil is changed.
• When abnormal noises occur from the exhaust system.
• When the exhaust system, underbody or rear of the vehicle body is damaged or corroded.
• Do not start the engine in confined spaces or enclosed areas such as garages. Move the vehicle into open air.
• Do not remain in a stationary vehicle with the engine running for extended periods.
• When parked in an open area, set the ventilation to fresh air mode to draw outside air into the cabin. (See “RECIRCULATION”)
• Do not drive with the trunk lid open. If driving with the trunk lid open is unavoidable, close the windows, set the ventilation system to fresh air mode and set the blower to maximum speed. (See “RECIRCULATION”)
