Winter Parking Recommendations
In cold weather, the parking brake mechanism may freeze in the applied position. This most often occurs due to moisture in the brake components.
If the parking brake may have frozen after driving through relatively deep puddles, or after washing the vehicle due to moisture in the brake components, do the following:
1. Temporarily apply the parking brake, then move the gear selector lever to the "P" position (automatic transmission) or to first gear or reverse (manual transmission).
2. Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
3. Release the parking brake.
• Do not apply the parking brake while the vehicle is moving or use it in place of the brake pedal.
This may result in loss of vehicle control and cause a collision, property damage, or injury.
