Immobilizer System
The immobilizer system is an additional anti-theft feature of the vehicle and serves to prevent unauthorized engine starting.
Only a mechanical ignition key with an electronically coded transponder is suitable for vehicles equipped with the immobilizer system. The transponder is located inside the key and is not visible from the outside.
The engine can only be started if the key contains a transponder with the correct electronic code.
Each vehicle has an individual electronic code; a code from another vehicle will be incorrect for your vehicle. If the key head does not contain a transponder or the code is incorrect, the engine will not start because the engine control module is blocked.
A mechanically matching key can only unlock the door or turn on the ignition, but will not allow the engine to start. After turning the ignition key to the LOCK position and removing it from the ignition switch, the engine is automatically immobilized.
Refer to “KEYS”.
If the immobilizer system does not recognize the electronic code when the ignition key is turned to the START position, the engine will not start and the anti-theft indicator on the driver's door lock button will continue to flash.
